Zomerdijk Brewing and Blending B.V. (Moersleutel)

Moersleutel united brewery, inventory and supporting processes in Odoo to work with greater clarity, alignment and control.

Moersleutel grew from a family brewery into an organization with diverse processes that needed stronger alignment. With Odoo, core workflows around inventory, manufacturing, purchasing, sales and support were brought together in one platform. The result is a more connected way of working with better visibility, less fragmentation and a stronger foundation for further growth.

Customer profile

Moersleutel is a Dutch craft brewery known for bold beers, a technical brewing mindset and a strong brand identity. What began as a family business developed into an organization with multiple teams, varied operational flows and a clear focus on quality. That combination of craftsmanship and professionalization requires a well-connected organization where information does not remain scattered but comes together in a logical and usable way across departments.

The company’s public story shows how important innovation, process control and consistent quality are in daily operations. That fits a business environment where brewing itself is only part of the picture, alongside purchasing, inventory, sales, service and internal support. For an organization with that breadth, an integrated system becomes valuable because it helps balance growth and control without creating unnecessary handovers between teams or separate islands of information.

Reason for change

As the organization continued to grow, the need for stronger alignment between different business processes became more apparent. A brewery does not only deal with recipes and production runs, but also with raw materials, packaging, quality steps, deliveries, customer communication, documents and internal coordination. When those elements live in different tools or disconnected routines, it becomes harder to steer consistently on current information, ownership and follow-up within daily operational processes .

The reason for change was therefore not one isolated issue, but a broader wish to support the organization more effectively as a whole. Odoo offered an attractive direction because it can bring multiple business domains together in a single platform. That creates a foundation on which departments can work more closely together and data no longer needs to be re-entered as often. For Moersleutel, that matched the ambition to gain better control across the chain while keeping room for further development.

Challenge

The core challenge lay in combining a dynamic production environment with a brand-driven organization that has diverse process needs. In a brewery, raw materials, semi-finished goods, packaging and finished products all need to connect smoothly, while sales and service also require reliable information. That calls for a system that supports operational accuracy and remains practical for different teams. Striking that balance makes an implementation for a company like Moersleutel organizationally and functionally complex .

A modern brewery also combines repeatable processes with variation, new releases and quality controls. The digital setup must therefore provide enough structure without becoming too rigid. Employees in different roles need access to information that is relevant and current for their work. The challenge was not only technical, but also process-oriented: how to configure Odoo in a way that supports the reality of the brewery floor while also improving collaboration between departments and creating clearer process ownership.

Odoo solution

The chosen solution was a broad Odoo setup in which several core processes were designed in relation to one another. This allows Moersleutel to work from one central platform for commercial, operational and supporting activities. It helps teams register information closer to the source and work from the same operational reality. Instead of fragmented process steps, the organization gains a more integrated way of working, supported by one central digital foundation for daily management and follow-up.

Beyond Odoo’s standard capabilities, custom work also plays a role, which fits the specific nature of the organization and its processes. The presence of several custom modules indicates that the solution was aligned with concrete working methods and exceptions that matter in practice. This means the implementation was not purely generic, but adapted to support the business in a targeted way. For Moersleutel, that translates into a system that connects standard and specificity instead of forcing one at the expense of the other.

Apps and processes

Several Odoo apps are relevant within the solution. For commercial and administrative flows, Sales, CRM, Invoicing, Contacts and Website are part of the landscape. For the operational chain, Inventory, Purchase, Manufacturing, Quality, Barcode, Maintenance and Repairs logically match the context of a brewery. Documents, Project, Planning and Helpdesk also support collaboration around internal follow-up and service.

Together they create a broad Odoo process landscape in which information remains available throughout each step. Supporting processes are also included, with apps such as Employees, Time Off, Attendances, Timesheets, Expenses, Approvals and Discuss. This shows that Odoo was not used only for the movement of goods, but also for the organization around it. By placing different process areas in one environment, coordination becomes easier and the risk decreases that important information remains trapped in mailboxes or separate files. In that way, Odoo supports both the shop floor and the back office through one shared working environment .

Result

The realized result is mainly visible in the way processes were brought closer together. By placing multiple business functions in one platform, there is stronger alignment between what happens operationally and what needs to be followed up administratively or commercially. That makes it easier to retrieve information, assign actions and implement changes more consistently. For a growing organization like Moersleutel, this creates a stronger basis for better visibility and coordination in day-to-day operations.

At the same time, part of the value lies in the ongoing development of the working model. An integrated Odoo environment can support further standardization, reduce dependence on separate tools and strengthen collaboration between teams over time. That matters to Moersleutel because quality, speed and control need to move together. The implementation therefore serves not only as a practical solution for today, but also as a basis for future professionalization and scalability in an ambitious brewery environment.
