Odoo vs Magento and Wordpress

Odoo is one of the many players in the website builder market. We list the differences between the main players.

Odoo

Just like WordPress, Magento and WooCommerce, Odoo has the right tools for creating a website or a complete webshop. The Odoo website builder makes it possible to build a website based on ready-made building blocks. No technical knowledge is required for this. WordPress, Magento, and WooCommerce are similar platforms, but there are certainly important differences.

WordPress

WordPress is highly customizable for almost all website usage needs. It can handle car dealerships as well as blogs, news sites, and e-commerce stores. However, advanced features like email marketing and A/B testing must be purchased separately.

Magento

Magento: Odoo and Magento are both website builders, but they show significant differences in approach. Odoo takes an all-in-one approach, bundling dozens of business management modules in one platform. For example, Odoo functionality or the Odoo modules provided are not available in Magento. To extend the functionality within Magento, you can usually do this by writing code. Magento is a platform that mainly focuses on e-commerce. Thanks to its advanced features, it is one of the most used e-commerce solutions. However, Magento is less suitable for blogs or ERP sites. However, there are plug-ins with which most e-commerce tasks can be easily integrated.

WooCommerce: WooCommerce is a plugin for WordPress that can turn any WordPress site into a robust online store. There are hundreds of free and paid extensions that provide advanced ecommerce functionality. These include payment providers such as Stripe and PayPal, as well as shipping providers such as UPS.

Behind the scenes: development

Odoo: Odoo developers use Python and PostgreSQL. Python is the fourth most popular programming language for developers.

WordPress: WordPress uses PHP and MySQL. PHP ranks 9th on the TIOBE index and offers plenty of opportunities to find developers.

Magento: Magento also builds on PHP and has a very active developer community. There are over 150,000 Magento developers worldwide. The Magento Community forums have over 286,000 members.

WooCommerce: Open-Source WooCommerce plugin has more than 350 core developers. In addition, there are millions of PHP and WordPress developers, many of them with WooCommerce development experience.

Pricing

Odoo: With Odoo you can already create a website for free with the 1 app free license. As a result, the license cost of Odoo is minimal. If you want more, you pay about €30 to €40 per month. An additional advantage is that your website can also be hosted via Odoo. Let's take a closer look at the similarities and differences between Odoo website builder and other Open-Source platforms.

WordPress: The Open-source version of the software package is completely free. Hosting or additional services from https://wordpress.com/ start from 4 Euro per month.

Magento: Magento Open-Source offers a free option for building an online store. Magento Commerce Starter costs USD 2,000 monthly. Magento Commerce Pro starts at $3,417 per month.

WooCommerce: WooCommerce is free. This allows businesses of all sizes to build their online store easily and cheaply. Extensions that provide different features are available for free or paid in the extension store.

Market share

Odoo:Odoo has 7 million users. ERP features make Odoo a popular website builder.

WordPress: WordPress powers 29% of internet websites. It continues to grow, with 84.9 million new posts every month on WordPress sites.

Magento: More than 300,000 companies use Magento around the world. By developers around the world, new e-commerce developments are constantly available to users.

WooCommerce: WooCommerce has over 37 million downloads. WooCommerce market share estimates range from 15% to over 45%. Needless to say, it's still one of the strongest ecommerce options.

As the requirements and wishes increase, the possibilities within Odoo also increase. Odoo includes advanced features like email marketing and A/B testing that work right out of the box. This gives users an easier way to use these advanced features than if they had to be developed through various plugins or as a custom solution.
