What is POS software?
Before we begin, first a short introduction to what POS stands for. POS (Point of Sale) is a computerized cash register. Unlike standard cash register systems, a POS is much more extensive, especially in reporting, management and sales. A cash register system consists of hardware and software. For hardware, a Windows computer system is usually used, often equipped with a touchscreen.
In addition, many extensions are possible, such as receipt and kitchen printers, barcode scanner, customer display, mobile handheld terminals and electronic cash drawers.
What are the advantages of an online touchscreen cash register?
An integrated cash register system has several advantages, such as:
- Working more efficiently through integrations with financial and inventory systems
- Real-time data processing
- Real-time data availability
- Product display with images and search functions
- No limit on the number of products.
- Simple touchscreen operation.
What are the disadvantages of a POS cash register system?
A disadvantage of many cash register systems is the high purchase price, but Odoo is changing that by developing a very comprehensive cash register system that is not only very user-friendly, but also requires no major investment. The Odoo cash register is also directly integrated with other Odoo modules, such as inventory and webshop, so that you are fully omnichannel .
Your Odoo cash register via an iPad
There is also no need for major investments to purchase the hardware. Odoo has made it possible to use an iPad as a POS. With the smart Odoo IoT-box, you can easily connect your receipt printer, scanner, cash drawer and optionally a scale.
An Odoo cash register is real-time
Odoo's POS software gives you immediate real-time insight and can be used with multiple cash registers at the same time, spread across one store or multiple stores. This means you always stay in control of the business and have direct access to your figures, and by using Odoo Inventory you can also gain immediate insight into your inventory. If you also have an Odoo webshop, sales via your webshop are also immediately included in the current status. This allows you to see exactly where sales are taking place and, more importantly, the current inventory level is always up to date.
Online & Mobile responsive
Odoo's cash register system is web-based; this means you have online access to the system 24/7. Odoo's online cash register system is also mobile responsive, which means the screen automatically adapts to the size of your display (desktop, tablet or smartphone). It is suitable for all browsers, such as Internet Explorer, Safari or Google Chrome. If you are offline, the system automatically synchronizes when you are online again.
User-friendly
The interface of Odoo's POS software is very user-friendly and has touchscreen controls. It is also possible to assist multiple customers at the same time.
Easily connect hardware
A scanner can be connected directly to the Odoo cash register, making it possible to scan products, but also to use discount cards or other promotions with a barcode. Of course, it is also possible to connect the cash drawer and payment terminal directly to the cash register system and pay by credit card.
Odoo Restaurant cash register
The Odoo cash register is also extremely suitable as POS software for a restaurant or hospitality venue. It has special functionalities for restaurant management, such as an online table layout, sending orders directly to the kitchen, or splitting the bill for larger groups.

For the accountant: Odoo thinks along with you
When opening the accounting module, you are taken
directly to the dashboard
. Here
an overview of your financial
status is shown:
outstanding items, bank statements to be reconciled and bank balances.
In addition, each journal contains a button to start a new entry immediately. This allows you to get started quickly.
Odoo also thinks along with you when processing invoices. For each supplier, you define the payment terms and the fiscal position. As a result, invoices automatically receive the correct due date and entries are automatically posted to the revenue account for non-domestic cost price. Of course, with the correct VAT coding and calculation.
Do you have an invoice from within the EU? The invoice will then clearly state that the VAT rate is 0%. In Odoo, the entries are created for output VAT and input VAT. Very handy for the VAT return every month or each quarter.
