What is IoT?
The Internet of Things (IoT) is a term used for all devices connected to the internet. The devices can monitor their environment, receive statuses, and can even take action themselves based on the information received.
Consider, for example, a wall cooling that is connected to the server in the Cloud via the Internet 24/7. The wall cooling monitors its environment using the temperature sensors. If the temperature is above or just below a set value, the wall cooling itself takes action by adjusting the temperature, or the wall cooling sends a text message to the manager to remedy a malfunction. The collected data on temperature fluctuations or exceptions can also be used for preventive maintenance.
Other applications that use IoT: Smart TV with the latest series, smartwatches with GPS to determine your location and view your sports performance or farmers who monitor their harvest via smart sensors.
The Odoo IoT Box
Odoo also makes full use of IoT. The Odoo IoT Box is a Raspberry Pi device that is fully integrated with Odoo. This allows Odoo to connect to other types of external devices, such as POS printers, PIN devices, scanners, scales and more.
